Kazakh-British Technical University

The idea of creating the Kazakh-British Technical University belongs to the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – Elbasy Nursultan Nazarbayev. 

With a view to implementing the agreements and arrangements in the field of education and science reached during an official visit of President of the Republic of Kazakhstan N.A. Nazarbayev to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in November 2000, the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan established JSC Kazakh-British Technical University (Resolution No.1027 dated August 3, 2001 in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the British Council). From the Kazakh side, the founder was the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan represented by the Ministry of Education and Science, from the British side, the British Embassy to Kazakhstan and the British Council became KBTU partners.

Since 2003, JSC NC KazMunayGas has been a sole shareholder of JSC KBTU (Resolution No.987 dated September 26, 2003).

In 2003, for the purpose of professional retraining and development of personnel, the educational center of KBTU Institute of Engineering and Information Technologies LLP was established.

Since 2005, the educational program of the dual bachelor's degree of KBTU and the London School of Economics and Political Sciences has been in effect.

In 2010-2011, the university was given a 100% equity stake in JSC D.V. Sokolsky Institute of Fuel, Catalysis and Electrochemistry, founded in 1969, and JSC Institute of Chemical Science named after A.B. Bekturov, founded in 1945.

In 2018, as part of the implementation of the Privatization Program approved by Resolution of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan No.1141 dated December 30, 2015, an equity stake in JSC Kazakh-British Technical University was acquired by Public Foundation “Nursultan Nazarbayev Educational Foundation.”
