Nursultan Nazarbayev Educational Foundation

Public Foundation Nursultan Nazarbayev Educational Foundation was established on the 15th of December 1998 at the initiative of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The Foundation’s activity is built according to the project principle that suggests clear setting of goals, choice of ways and means, and is aimed at stage-by-stage development of innovations. The Foundation’s mission is to contribute to the development of the educational system in Kazakhstan in compliance with international standards.

Innovative Miras Schools in Astana and Almaty, International School of Almaty, Miras Kindergarten in Astana and Arystan Specialized Lyceum were founded under the auspices of the Educational Foundation. The educational process of the Foundation’s schools is focused on creating optimal conditions for the development of potential opportunities and personal abilities of students, shaping independent and critical thinking, ability to freely express oneself, and be interrelated with the environment.

Creation of good-quality conditions for carrying out the educational activity allowed the Foundation’s schools to be successfully accredited by the following international organizations: the Council of International Schools (CIS), New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASС). There are only three schools with such a status in CIS countries, two of them are the Miras Schools in Astana and Almaty. The Miras Schools have been accredited by the University of Cambridge as an International Examination Center for IGCSE exams (the British standard) to obtain an International General Certificate of Secondary Education.

The Foundation’s schools have been successfully authorized by the International Baccalaureate (IB) in the IB programmes. At all the three schools the Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) and Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) were successfully authorized for an entitlement to award the MYP Certificate recognized by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan as equivalent to Kazakhstan Certificate of General Education.

The Diploma Programme (IB DP) for Grades 11-12 was authorized at the Miras Schools in Almaty and Astana. This is one of the prestigious and qualitatively new forms of organizing profile education in high school and grants the right to be admitted to world universities without entrance examinations provided that the Programme has been completed successfully. Today the Miras Schools Diploma Programme graduates are studying at leading universities of Kazakhstan, the United Kingdom, India, Spain, Canada, China, Singapore, USA and France.

In February 2012 by the Resolution of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan the Foundation’s schools were awarded a Status of International Schools.

Since 2011 the Arystan Specialized Lyceum has been created and is actively operating. The project has a social focus: lyceum students are educated and supported on a charitable basis, and children from needy families and families with many children have a priority right in admission to the lyceum.

The Educational Foundation is a co-founder of two higher educational institutions: the University of International Business (UIB) and International Information Technologies University (IITU).

In 2007 in cooperation with the Akimat of Mangistau Oblast, Norwegian Kvaerner Caspian Fabrication production company and RKK foundation (Center for Training and Professional Development of Rogaland County, Norway) an Aktau Training Center (ATC) was established in Aktau whose activity is aimed at training and certifying workers for the oil and gas industry in compliance with international standards.

Currently, the construction of two innovative Miras Kindergartens in Almaty and Atyrau is underway. At new Foundation kindergartens the children aged 2 and up will be educated according to the Miras integrated educational programmes using the elements of Montessori education.

The educational organizations of the Foundation are distinguished not only by their innovative content but also aesthetics of architecture and functional capabilities of academic buildings, light and spacious classrooms equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, laboratories, subject classrooms, sports complexes, music halls and an art studio.
